In 2003 -- well ahead of the "green" trend -- designer Olga Abadi established Nahui Ollin with the purpose of developing eco-friendly alternatives to the often wasteful world of fashion accessories. Using an ancient Mayan binding technique, Nahui Ollin creates stylish handbags from recycled materials, including defective candy and gum wrappers. For each handbag, an individual artisan will bind up to 4,000 defective wrappers "saved" from the local landfills to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
